This is an example of a set of a predictions of the dry microburst frequency (thick black trace) based on the morning soundings taken before the start of the convective day (12 UTC) for the full period of the JAWS Project. The single sounding linear predictive model (Caracena et al., 1983a.) was applied to the Denver sounding to generate the expected dry microburst frequency. The coefficients used in the model were determined from Fujita's (1985c) count (color shaded) of the number of microbursts occurring in the JAWS network. This model is expected to be applicable to other days outside the JAWS Project period, and could be used for any day to predict microburst occurrence in the Denver area. With some work, this model can be extended to the entire country, but the high probablities of microbursts normally should be found centered over the dryer parts of the country such as over the desert Southwest.
